BFSU hosts launch of Malaysia development report

The online launch of the "Annual Report on Development of Malaysia (2025)" was held on Feb 1.

The event was jointly organized by the Beijing Foreign Studies University's (BFSU) School of Asian Studies, Academy of Regional and Global Governance and China-Malaysia Research Center, along with the ASEAN Studies Center at Peking University, and the Social Sciences Academic Press.

At the event, Professor Zhao Gang, BFSU's vice-president, delivered a speech.

Zhao Gang highlighted that the "Annual Report on Development of Malaysia (2025)" is a core achievement of BFSU's "double first-class" initiative, offering diverse insights and a systematic analysis of Malaysia's development across various fields and the evolving China-Malaysia relationship. He mentioned that BFSU aims to deepen academic and cultural exchanges between China and Malaysia through platforms such as related academic chairs and youth exchange programs.

In the keynote report session, Xu Liping, a researcher from the National Institute of International Strategy at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, explored the connections and essential differences between Malaysian studies and Malay world studies, emphasizing the regional importance of a transnational comparative perspective and a holistic regional view.

Professor Zhang Zhenjiang from the School of International Studies and the Academy of Overseas Chinese Studies at Jinan University emphasized the need for deep understanding, theoretical engagement, and independent knowledge innovation in regional and country-specific research.

During the expert presentation session, six renowned scholars from both domestic and international circles in Malaysian studies shared cutting-edge research findings on Malaysia with the audience.

The "Annual Report on Development of Malaysia (2025)" embodies the collective wisdom of scholars from Chinese universities, authoritative research institutions, and renowned experts from Malaysia, Singapore, and other countries. It provides a comprehensive overview of Malaysia's political, economic, and diplomatic development in 2024 and early 2025, as well as the latest trends in China-Malaysia relations.

The publication highlights the collaborative efforts of scholars from both countries and offers an authoritative analysis of bilateral relations, serving as a comprehensive resource for understanding Malaysia's current development.
