Exchange event on international Chinese teaching skills held at BFSU

The 2024 "Heroes of Chinese Teaching" International Chinese Language Teaching Skills Exchange Event (North China region) was held at Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) on Oct 26. 

Almost 100 experts, scholars, teachers and students from 20 universities attended in person, while more than 10,000 people watched the live broadcast.

In his speech, Zhao Gang, a member of the standing committee of the CPC BFSU committee and vice-president of the university, said that international Chinese education not only aims to impart language skills but also shoulders the noble mission of fostering cultural exchanges, promoting mutual learning and enhancing friendship among people of different nations.

He also expressed BFSU’s commitment to cultivating talent, pursuing academic excellence and strengthening its global presence. With a strong emphasis on the development of international Chinese education, the university is eager to collaborate with all parties to explore new models for high-quality growth and contribute to the flourishing of this discipline, according to Zhao.

Liu Jie, deputy secretary of the CPC committee of FLTRP Group and deputy chair of the board and editor-in-chief of FLTRP Group, remarked on the event’s expansion in both reach and impact in the field of international Chinese education, with increasing support for teachers’ development.

In recent years, Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press (FLTRP) has been dedicated to facilitating teacher interactions, publishing and academic exchange in international Chinese education, Liu said, adding that the group will pursue international and digital development, as well as commit more resources and contribute greater expertise to the field.

The event featured an exchange and demonstration session, where teams from 18 universities designed creative and enlightening courses in general Chinese and Chinese for specific purposes, focusing on various training objectives such as language elements, language skills and Chinese culture. They employed pedagogical models like flipped classrooms, incorporated the content-and-language integrated learning approach and utilized artificial intelligence technology in their teaching.

Launched in July, the 2024 "Heroes of Chinese Teaching" International Chinese Language Teaching Skills Exchange Event includes teacher and student categories spanning six regions—Northeast, North, East, Southwest, Northwest and Central South China.

Nearly 150 teams registered, with the North China region drawing participation of 31 teams from 24 universities in Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei and Shanxi. Student representatives hailed from 12 countries, including China, Vietnam, South Korea, Pakistan, Thailand and Egypt. Through meticulous preparation, these teams offered outstanding teaching demonstrations that showcased high-quality Chinese lessons.
