Polish president's wife Agata Kornhauser-Duda visits BFSU

Agata Kornhauser-Duda, wife of Polish President Andrzej Duda, visited Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) on June 24, marking a significant step in cultural diplomacy between Poland and China.

The event was attended by Zhao Gang, a member of the standing committee of the CPC BFSU committee and vice-president of the university.

In his welcoming address, Zhao expressed warm greetings to Agata and her delegation, emphasizing the broad consensus, cultural affinity and practical cooperation between China and Poland despite the geographical distance.

He highlighted the commitment of BFSU’s Polish language program to nurturing talents for Sino-Polish exchanges over the past 70 years since its establishment. 

Agata's visit to BFSU marks an affirmation and inspiration for both teachers and students at the university. It will play an important role in promoting closer cultural exchanges between the two countries, deepening mutual understanding and trust between the two peoples.

Agata reciprocated the warm welcome and commended BFSU for its dedication to advancing cultural exchanges, friendly relations, literary translation and mutual learning of civilizations between China and Poland over the years. 

She specifically praised BFSU’s engagement in the compilation of the Polish-Chinese and Chinese-Polish dictionary with universities from both countries, which holds significant importance.

During the interactive sessions with BFSU students, Agata enthusiastically talked about Polish literature and impressions of Poland and encouraged them to explore opportunities for studying and exchanging in Poland, hoping that they will grow into ambassadors promoting friendship between the two nations.

As part of the visit, students at the university’s Polish language program performed choral renditions. Agata joined them in reading the renowned Polish writer Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz's prose piece Strawberries

Agata also toured exhibitions showcasing 70 years of history and achievements of the Polish language program at BFSU, including displays of literary translations and research outcomes. She praised the program's comprehensive efforts in academic development, talent cultivation and research accomplishments.

The visit concluded with Agata experiencing Chinese calligraphy, using a brush to write her Chinese name.
