The 2024 International Forum on Regional Cooperation and Development of China, Japan, and South Korea and the 21st Northeast Asia Management and Economics Joint Conference were held at Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) from May 31 to June 1.

Jia Dezhong, vice-president of BFSU, highlighted the high institutional level, broad scope and rich content of China-Japan-ROK cooperation, emphasizing its role in promoting regional and global economic development. He also emphasized the importance of sustained trilateral collaboration in building a more open, inclusive, and balanced regional order.

Yan Liang, deputy secretary-general of the Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS), underscored the timeliness of the forum following a recent trilateral summit. He emphasized the importance of the trilateral cooperation and stressed TCS’s commitment to it.

Wang Hao, deputy editor-in-chief of China Daily, stressed the critical role of China, Japan, and the ROK in regional stability and prosperity. He pointed out the challenges posed by historical grievances, current issues and external interference, and advocated for enhanced communication and cooperation under multilateral mechanisms to improve trilateral relations. He highlighted the importance of restarting China-Japan-ROK free trade negotiations to expand markets and boost trade and investment, particularly in the silver economy and tourism sectors.

The keynote speeches focused on "China-Japan-ROK Economic Cooperation Based on Shared Culture, Technological Innovation, and Global Markets". Nine experts and scholars delivered presentations on various aspects of the trilateral economic cooperation.

The forum also had three roundtable discussions and a youth forum. The roundtable discussions covered topics such as "China-Japan-ROK Economic and Value Chain Cooperation", "RCEP and China-Japan-ROK Economic Integration", and "Low Birthrate and the Silver Economy". Experts discussed issues of economic cooperation and development.
The youth forum, featuring speeches, discussions, and cultural performances, showcased the wisdom and strength of young people from the three countries.

At the closing ceremony, Yu Chenxun, secretary-general of the forum and a visiting professor at BFSU, awarded the best papers and delivered the closing remarks, emphasizing the need for continued collaboration among the three countries to create a win-win future.
Guided by the TCS, the forum was co-hosted by BFSU and China Daily and organized by the International Business School of BFSU.
