A team headed by Wang Dinghua, secretary of the CPC BFSU committee, visited Belgium, Hungary and Spain from May 21 to 30.

In Belgium, the team thanked the Chinese embassy in Belgium for supporting the development of BFSU and the Confucius Institutes established by the university over the years, attended the council meeting of the Confucius Institute at the University of Liege, and signed a cooperation agreement on student exchanges between the business schools of the two universities with Anne-Sophie Nyssen, rector of the University of Liege.
The two universities agreed to extend cooperation to broader fields and promote teacher-student exchanges, scholastic visits, and collaboration in scientific research.

Wang introduced the achievements made by BFSU in the building of world-class universities and disciplines and the construction of Confucius Institutes at the Chinese Mission to the European Union, talked about cooperation between the university’s Graduate School of Translation and Interpretation and the Directorate-General for Interpretation (DG SCIC) at the European Commission, and proposed to work together in joint training, scientific research, and internship programs for BFSU students.

The team also visited the Belgium-China Association and attended a class at the Confucius Institute in Brussels on May 23 to strengthen ties for the institute’s further development.

During their trip in Hungary, team members went to Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), ELTE Trefort Ágoston Gyakorló Gimnázium and the Confucius Institute at ELTE, where BFSU signed partnership, cooperation and student exchange agreements with the university, learned about students' Chinese studies and language proficiency and met with teachers and volunteers at the Confucius Institute.
Wang urged teachers to teach students according to their aptitude and improve their teaching skills to stimulate students’ enthusiasm, initiative and internal drive, actively participate in the Belt and Road Initiative, realize their values, serve the country and contribute to society.

The team also discussed further cooperation with the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and expressed the determination to continue the collaboration with Hungarian universities and educational institutions, and to cultivate more talents familiar with the languages and cultures of China and Hungary at the Chinese embassy in Hungary.

While staying in Spain, the team talked with directors of the Spanish Workstation of the BFSU Tongwen Educational Center and the Confucius Institute at the University of Barcelona (UB) about setting up exchange programs, building overseas development bases for teachers and recruiting students for master's programs in Chinese studies, and met with Chinese teachers at the institute, encouraging them to work hard to disseminate Chinese culture.

The team also paid a visit to China’s consulate-general in Barcelona on May 29 and talked with the consul general, hoping to recruit more employees who understand Chinese, thereby helping form a Chinese learning craze.

At the UB, the last stop of the team’s Spanish tour, Wang expressed the willingness to promote exchanges and visits between teachers and students of the two universities and develop the Confucius Institute at the UB as a Chinese education base and a link for collaboration.
Wang also invited teachers from the UB to contribute to the journal Sino-Iberoamerican Interaction founded by BFSU.
