Symposium on country and area studies held at BFSU

A symposium on country and area studies was held on April 27 at Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) to build a broad consensus for discipline construction, facilitate intra-campus cooperation and promote high-quality research in the field.

Hosted by the School of International Relations and Diplomacy and the editorial board of International Forum, the symposium was attended by experts and scholars from the Academy of Regional and Global Governance, the School of English and International Studies, the School of Asian Studies, the School of African Studies, the School of Arabic Studies, the Beijing Center for Japanese Studies, the International Business School, the School of European Languages and Cultures and the School of International Relations and Diplomacy.

The symposium was chaired by Wang Mingjin, vice-dean of the School of International Relations and Diplomacy at BFSU and deputy chief editor of International Forum.

Attendees exchanged views on the construction of country and area studies, mechanisms of scientific research cooperation and talent training.

They called on the university to build an overall framework for discipline construction, set up interdisciplinary scientific research cooperation platforms at the university level, promote in-depth integration of foreign languages and country and area studies and yield abundant research accomplishments.

Xie Tao, dean of the School of International Relations and Diplomacy, in his concluding remarks stressed the importance of strengthening intra-campus exchanges to propel country and area studies with BFSU characteristics.
