Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) held the 16th FLTRP CUP Athletic Games on April 22, its way of enriching students' campus life.

The opening ceremony was attended by an official from the Ministry of Education (MOE) and BFSU leaders. Also gracing the event were three Winter Olympics medalists including Qi Guangpu, gold medalist in freestyle skiing men's aerials; Zhang Yuting, who won the mixed team relay short-track speed skating; and Li Wenlong, silver medal winner in men's 1,000-meter short-track speed skating.

Liu Lixin, secretary-general of the Joint Secretariat of National Students Sports at MOE, and Yang Dan, deputy Party secretary of the CPC BFSU committee and president of the university, unveiled the joint construction plan of sports associations for teachers and students, and presented the flag.
The plan looks to build a diversified system for sports and fitness activities, enhance exchanges between teachers and students, promote physical health and develop sports culture on campus.

Ding Hao, member of the standing committee of the CPC BFSU committee, vice-president of the university and chairman of BFSU's labor union, addressed the opening ceremony. He said BFSU has attached great importance to students' participation in sports and the nationwide fitness campaign for years. The university has taken sports as the basis of well-rounded education and viewed mass fitness as an effective means to improve both teachers and students' physical conditions.
By deepening reforms in education and teaching, strengthening sports facilities and enriching relevant activities, BFSU has won multiple honors in competitions at all levels, according to Ding.
Ding said he wishes BFSUers will prioritize health conditions, keep the coordinated development of study, take physical exercises and strive for well-rounded development. He said the university will carry forward the Winter Olympics spirit and the Olympic motto to cultivate more talents with patriotism, global vision and professionalism.
Zhen Kexin and Lin Zhixin from the university made oaths as volunteer team leader, referee representative and athlete.
Qi gave a speech encouraging BFSU students to uphold the Olympic motto at study and work, strive for realizing dreams, transcend themselves and show the younger generation's outstanding spiritual outlook.
Following the opening ceremony, the three medalists talked about the Winter Olympic spirit and shared their experiences during the Games with almost 100 volunteers from the university.

A total of 1,298 faculty members and 1,343 students from 36 departments at BFSU attended the games.
The registration, competition and performance recording were conducted in an electronic form, which shortened application time, enhanced timing accuracy and ensured the objectivity of the games, facilitating fairness, safety and excellence.

Athletes finished the competitions, followed by the holding of the closing ceremony, which was addressed by Su Dapeng, deputy Party secretary of the CPC BFSU committee. Su said BFSU teachers and students' active engagement in the games demonstrated their positive outlook in life. He said he hopes BFSUers will pay more attention to physical exercises, enhance sports literacy and improve physical and mental health.
