Beijing 2022 reuses six competition and non-competition venues of Beijing 2008. Furthermore, Zhangjiakou is now capable of transmitting its abundant renewable power through a “green-electricity grid network” to three competition zones — Beijing, Yanqing, and Zhangjiakou, which now consume 100% green power. Li Sen pointed out that, over more than six years of preparations, the host city has minimized emissions and offset them by carbon sink and corporate donations, thus ensured the carbon neutralization target of the Games.
Yanqing Zone, staging many snow events during the Games, has vast ecological resources. The organizers are committed to minimizing the impact of construction on local ecology. In-situ, near-situ and ex-situ conservation measures have been taken for the wildlife. What’s more, Yanying has stripped topsoil of 81,000 cubic meters for ecological and landscape restoration in the zone.
