The 2021 Council Meeting of the Confucius Institute at Hungary’s Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) was held online on Nov 10.
Representatives from ELTE and Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) attended the virtual meeting.
Hudecz Ferenc, former rector of ELTE, thanked Chinese and Hungarian staff of the Confucius Institute for their joint efforts and affirmed the institute’s accomplishments, especially the fruitful results achieved in academic cooperation with the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.

Borhy Lászlo, rector of ELTE, thanked the university for its support in cross-cultural communication and Chinese teacher training for the Confucius Institute. He called for further cooperation and mutual support to fuel the development of the institute.
Jia Wenjian, deputy secretary of the CPC BFSU committee and vice-president of the university, congratulated Hamar Imre, vice-rector of ELTE and director of the Confucius Institute, on receiving the medal from the Chinese International Education Foundation for long services as a Confucius Institute director.
Jia spoke highly of the accomplishments achieved by the institute in talent training, culture promotion and synchronized development, and affirmed its contributions in boosting people-to-people exchanges between China and Hungary in the past 15 years.
He also said BFSU will support the institute’s development as always, facilitate talent cooperation and boost cultural exchanges between the two countries.

The council appointed Li Min, dean of the School of Chinese Language and Literature at BFSU, as a new member, deliberated the institute’s work plans, reviewed its financial reports and discussed planning for training translators by strengthening cooperation.
The Confucius Institute at ELTE opened on Dec 7, 2006. It is the first Confucius Institute in Hungary and one of the first demonstration Confucius Institutes in the world.
