The 7th General Meeting and the 9th Council Meeting of the Confucius Institute at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg (FAU) was held on Oct 14.
Xu Yan and Han Zhenhua, directors of the Confucius Institute at FAU, Jin Limin, director of the Office of Confucius Institutes at Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU), Dr. Florian Janik, mayor of the city of Erlangen, and representatives from the city of Nuremberg, FAU, BFSU and the Confucius Institute attended the online meeting.

Jia Wenjian, deputy secretary of the CPC BFSU committee and vice-president of the university, affirmed the achievements obtained by the Confucius Institute in the past 15 years. He said BFSU will always support its development as a cooperative partner.
Jia suggested that the Confucius Institute at FAU should focus on intensive development, refine its current projects, and make more contributions to serving talent training, scientific research, social services and cultural inheritance.
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Joachim Hornegger, president of FAU, thanked BFSU for its support for the university and the Confucius Institute. He said that the achievements of the institute over the years owe a great deal to the help of cooperative entities and the efforts of staff from both sides. He said he hopes that the Confucius Institute at FAU can promote cultural exchanges and bilateral cooperation between China and Germany in the future.

At the meeting, Jia was elected as the director general of the council. Wu Jiang, dean of the School of German Studies, and Zhu Yong, vice-dean of the School of Chinese Language and Literature, were elected as council members. The participants deliberated the work and financial reports of the Confucius Institute for the past year and discussed its future development planning.
The Confucius Institute at FAU opened in May 2006. As the first Confucius Institute of BFSU, it has been awarded the titles of “advanced Confucius Institute” and “2015 demonstration Confucius Institute”. Based in the Nuremberg Metropolitan Region, the Confucius Institute has been committed to carrying out Chinese teaching and Sino-German cultural exchange activities to promote multicultural development.
