A ceremony was held at the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press (FLTRP) on September 3, to mark the release of the Global Indices 2021, as well as several other major indices.
The release ceremony was co-hosted by the Academy of Regional and Global Governance at Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU), the National Research Centre for State Language Capacity, the International Business School, the Graduate School of Education, the School of Translation and Interpreting, and the FLTRP in celebration of the 80th founding anniversary of the university.
The newly released Global Indices 2021 is a publication that demonstrates the initial achievements made by Yang Dan, deputy secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) BFSU Committee and the university's president, and his teammates in a research project titled "Embracing the World with Index Compilation".
The book included the international organizations' influence index, the country-specific linguistic competence index, the global intelligent innovation index, the Chinese university-specific global influence index, the accounting information module quality index, and the globalization barometer index. It was the first time for these indices to be released into the world.
Meanwhile, another two indices, the 2019 global index of national translation and interpretation capacity and the 2019 ranking list of Chinese universities’ translation and interpretation capacity, were published at the inaugural ceremony of the BFSU Research Centre for Country-specific Translation and Interpretation Capacity (RECTIC) in May.

Yang said that it was of great importance for BFSU to compile these indices, since they would help the Chinese people reshape their understanding of the world from a fresh and scientific perspective.
He said that the university would forge ahead with its research on relevant indices from multiple perspectives and interdisciplinary aspects, as well as incorporate the research methods of social sciences into the studies of foreign languages. He also stated that BFSU will build an interdisciplinary development path characterized by the application of metrology in the field of humanities and social sciences, developing it with scientific concepts on the world and unique discourse systems, and will make great contributions to the promotion of China's role in global governance.

During the release ceremony, Yang and Wang Fang, head of the FLTRP, jointly unveiled the book and presented copies to participants of the event.

The release ceremony received congratulations from a number of experts and academicians, which inculded Chen Xiaohong, Party chief of the Hunan University of Technology and Business, an academician with the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a national political advisor, Zhai Zhenyuan, a member of the National Education Advisory Committee and chairperson of the sixth council of the China Association of Higher Education, and Li Yuming, president of the China Association for Lexicography, former deputy director of National Language Commission and former Party chief of the Beijing Language and Culture University.
