Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) held talks with the Ministry of Higher Education of Malaysia and the Education Section of the Embassy of Malaysia in China on June 17. The talks focused on education and cultural cooperation as well as the Malaysian government’s sending of senior visiting scholars to the university.
The representative of the Ministry of Higher Education of Malaysia congratulated BFSU on its 80th anniversary and the 60th anniversary of its School of Asian Studies.
BFSU's cooperation between the Ministry of Higher Education of Malaysia has a long history, said the representative. Both sides should continue to strengthen cooperation in culture and education. The ministry will speed up the selection and dispatching of senior visiting scholars to BFSU and help deepen cooperation between the two sides, the representative added.
Shao Ying, director of the Malay-language teaching and research office at BFSU, introduced the university and the School of Asian Studies to the guests. Shao said that BFSU and universities in Malaysia have maintained a long-term cooperative relationship, and she hopes that both sides will continue to increase academic visits and scientific research exchanges.
Su Yingying, dean of the School of Asian Studies, and Ma Zhongwu, deputy director of the International Exchange and Cooperation Office of BFSU, talked with guests about the selection process and funding of high-level visiting scholars from Malaysia to BFSU.
The senior visiting scholars will be specialized in Malaysian linguistics, literature and culture. They teach in universities worldwide that offer Malay-language programs to develop the Malay language and spread Malay culture.
In 2007, BFSU and the Ministry of Higher Education of Malaysia signed a memorandum of understanding on setting seats for senior Malaysian visiting scholars. Based on the memorandum, Malaysia has established one of the five high-level visiting scholar seats at the BFSU Malay Research Center since 2008.
