The first meeting of the preparatory committee for the 80th anniversary of Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) and the meeting of work deployment were held on Sept 24, 2020.

Wang Dinghua, secretary of the CPC BFSU committee, Yang Dan, deputy secretary of the CPC BFSU committee and president of the university, Yuan Jun, Jia Wenjian and Sun Youzhong, members of the standing committee of the CPC BFSU committee and vice presidents of the university, and all members of the preparatory committee attended the meeting, which was chaired by Ding Hao, secretary-general of the preparatory committee. 

BFSU holds the first meeting of the preparatory committee for its 80th anniversary and the meeting of work deployment on Sept 24, 2020.

Wang delivered a pep talk and put forward opinions on the preparatory work.

He said the preparatory committee should sum up the history and achievements of the school, and publicize the outstanding deeds of alumni, staff and people from all walks of life who have contributed to the development of BFSU.

“We should take the celebration as a new start, adhere to the motto of ‘inclusiveness, diversity, knowledge and dedication’, and seize the opportunity to promote the ‘double first-class’ construction,” said Wang

Wang said the goal of the celebration is to review the school’s history, unite alumni, gather strength and promote development. The preparatory work should therefore embody the philosophy of BFSU, continue the fulfillment of its values, encourage teachers and students to undertake new missions and make new achievements.

Wang stressed that the university should create its own educational style, transmit positive values, improve its academic quality and expand its global influence. A BFSU cultural brand should be built to carry forward the spirit of the school.

“The 80th anniversary will be a great opportunity to enhance cohesiveness and build a comprehensive image of BFSU. We should mobilize the enthusiasm of all teachers and students, enhance their sense of belonging, publicize the characteristics of discipline construction and talent training, and build up a solid publicity system,” said Wang.

He called on all working teams to strengthen communication and collaborate closely with each other to ensure that tasks of each phase are carried out in a timely manner with high quality and in accordance with laws and regulations. COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control measures should also be adopted to guarantee the health and safety of all BFSUers. 

At the meeting, Wang Mingxin, deputy director of the university anniversary celebration office, reported the work progress since the establishment of the preparatory committee, and elaborated on the work plan for BFSU’s 80th anniversary.

Heads of the BFSU alumni association foundation, the publicity department of the CPC BFSU committee, the international exchange and cooperation office, and the School of English and International Studies attended the meeting and exchanged views on the anniversary preparations.

At the meeting, responsibilities and tasks of the celebration were assigned to each working group, and the timeline was determined. Work arrangements of the next phase were also deployed.
