    NOTICE FOR THE FIRST PHOTOGRAPHY AND COMPOSITION CONTEST FOR FOREIGNERS

            The first photography and composition contest for foreign teachers and students in china (PCCFTS) is to be held to showcase China’s image and culture, deepen understanding of China by foreign teachers and students in China, promote cultural communication between China and other countries and boost cultural activities in campus.
    Subjects of works:
            Works for the contest are about mainland China, either photographs or compositions.
    Photographs cover the following three subjects:
    1.China’s landscapes: beautiful natural scenery in China;
    2.China’s cities and villages: custom, culture and view of China’s cities and villages;
    3.Chinese people: living status and scenes of Chinese people in the eye of foreigners.
            Compositions are about impressions on today’s China, feelings of life, travels and communication with Chinese people.

    Process of the contest:
    1. Invite universities to the contest
            The Organizing Committee will invite, by official letters, universities to organize foreign teachers and students for the contest. Organizing Committee Office and College and University Liaison Office of the Organizing Committee (two offices) will be established to prepare and organize the contest.
    2. Online invitations
    Invitations to:
    (1)Foreign teachers and students in universities in China;
    (2)Foreign teachers and students who once worked, lived or traveled in China.
    3. Publicity
    (1)Publicity in universities
            At the publicity stage, University Mobilization Meeting is to be held to promote the contest in ways of posters, campus websites, BBS posts and campus radio stations.
    (2)Publicity through media
            China Human Rights Net (www.humanrights.cn), as the official website for the contest, will start a special section on December 10th, 2011 to follow up and promptly report the activity. Show China Net and local news websites will also post information about the contest. Human Rights magazine will publicize the activity through relevant print media.

    4.Requirements for works
            No charge for the contest. All works must be original. Works for the contest will not be returned, so please keep backups.
            Specific requirements for works:
    (1)Photographs can be colored or black-and-white, filmed or digital. They should never win prizes in other contests and must be taken after January 1st, 2010.
    (2)Requirements for the pieces: For photographs, no alteration to the original image and information, JPG formatted, no less than 3000 pixels at the longest side and no less than 1500 pixels at the shortest side; photos taken on films, colored or black-and-white, should be scanned into electronic format for the contest; participants must keep the films or original digital files of the photos for checks and use. Compositions should be written in modern Chinese or English (with Chinese translation) within 3000 words. They should be in WORD format, imitation Song typeface and font size NO. 3.
    (3)Participants should correctly complete the entry form in both paper and digital form. Click To Download Entry Form
    Collection of works:
    1. All participants should upload works and entry forms in digital form as required to China Human Rights Net, designated website by the Organizing Committee, from December 10th, 2011 to March 10th, 2012; and submit works and entry forms in paper form to their universities for collection by College and University Liaison Office of the Organizing Committee.
    2. Works are evaluated by the evaluation committee and Organizing Committee Office.
    3. Works in paper form are collected and arranged by College and University Liaison Office of the Organizing Committee.

    5. All participants should comply with the flowing provisions:
    (1)All participants should provide true and detailed personal information (sex, age, address, contacts, ect.)
    (2) Dishonesties such as plagiarism and appropriation are strictly prohibited. In case that works for the contest infringe on others’ copyright, right of portrait or right of reputation, the author is responsible to legal disputes. The Organizing Committee of the contest is not responsible to legal disputes caused by works for the contest, including but not limited to right of portrait, right of reputation, right of privacy, copyright and right of trademark.
    (3) The Organizing Committee and the undertaker website of the contest is entitled to, if necessary, edit, release, exhibit, show online and print the works and carry out other non-profit publicity activities, without paying extra remuneration to the author.
    (4) The Organizing Committee and the undertaker website of the contest, when using the works, should respect the right of authorship of participants. If a third party is to use the works, Organizing Committee Office should consult the author.
    (5) The Organizing Committee of the contest has the right of final evaluation of the works and the decision right to display selected works online.
    (6) In case of any quality problems in prize-winning works, the Organizing Committee is entitled to ask the author for high-quality ones.
    (7) Participants must submit works in the valid period, otherwise disqualified.
    (8) Works for the contest should comply with laws and regulations in China.
    (9) Participants accept all rules of the contest as they submit works for the contest.
    (10) Works violating contest rules or falling short of participation conditions will automatically be disqualified from prizes.
    (11) The Organizing Committee of the contest reserves the right of final interpretation for the activity.
    Evaluation and awards of works
    1. The Organizing Committee will set up the evaluation committee (abbreviated as EC) and works for the contest will be appraised by EC.
    2. The evaluation committee is composed of experts, scholars and leaders in the media area organized by China International Communication Center, Human Rights Magazine and Beijing Foreign Studies University. Member list of the committee will be released 30 days prior to evaluation.
    3. Prizes
            Entry Prize, Outstanding Prize and Most popular prize are set up for both photographs and compositions.
    (1) Prizes for photographs
    Entry Prize
            Entry Prize is based on online votes (one vote for each IP per day). At the end of every month, the top 100 works with most votes for each subject of “China’s landscapes”, “China’s cities and villages” and “Chinese people” will be awarded Entry Prize. All works should be submitted to participants’ universities to get recommended for Entry Prize, otherwise disqualified from the prize. Entry Prize is the prerequisite for the final (works that have already won Entry Prize will be excluded from voting in the next month). Entry Prize winners will be awarded electronic Entry Prize certificate by the Organizing Committee; results and works of Entry Prize will be displayed in “Entry Prize Works” at the contest platform.
    Outstanding Prize
    Photographs: The evaluation committee will, entrusted by the Organizing Committee, grade the Entry Prize works based on their expression of subjects, photography skills, creativity and planning ability and select the top six for First, Second and Third Prize.
    Prizes are as follows:
    One First Prize: one certificate, one cup and RMB 5000 yuan
    Two Second Prizes: one certificate and RMB 3000 yuan for each
    Three Third Prizes: one certificate and RMB 2000 yuan for each
    Most Popular Prize (Prize for Best Works)
    Top 1 work with most online votes for each of the three subjects will be selected for Most Popular Prize. Each of the three winners will be awarded one certificate and RMB 1000 yuan.
    (2)  Prizes for compositions
    Entry Prize
            Entry Prize is based on online votes (one vote for each IP per day). At the end of every month, the top 100 compositions with most votes will be awarded Entry Prize. Entry Prize is the prerequisite for the final (compositions that have already won Entry Prize will be excluded from voting in the next month). Entry Prize winners will be awarded electronic Entry Prize certificate by the Organizing Committee; results and works of Entry Prize will be displayed in “Entry Prize Works” at the contest platform.
    Outstanding Prize
            Essays will be evaluated from perspectives of impressions on China, feelings of life, travels and communication stories and selected for six First, Second and Third Prizes and Most Popular Prizes.
    Prizes are as follows:
    One First Prize: one certificate, one cup and RMB 5000 yuan
    Two Second Prizes: one certificate and RMB 3000 yuan for each
    Three Third Prizes: one certificate and RMB 2000 yuan for each
    Most Popular Prize (Prize for Best Works)
            Top 1 work with most online votes for each of the three subjects, with evaluation committee votes considered, will be selected for Most Popular Prize. Each of the three winners will be awarded one certificate and RMB 1000 yuan.
    Notes:
            The above award money is pretax.
            To commend universities for their contribution to the contest, College Organization Prizes are provided as follows:
    One Outstanding College Organization Prize: one certificate, one cup and RMB 5000 yuan
    Two College Organization Prizes: one certificate and RMB 2000 yuan for each
    Prize awarding:
    1. An award ceremony will be held for the contest, and it will be covered by new media and live broadcasted online.
    2. Organization Committee Office is responsible to invite the media to the award ceremony.
    3. Organization Committee Office is responsible to organize prize winners to the award ceremony.
