BFSU holds graduation ceremony for class of 2023

Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) held a graduation ceremony for the class of 2023 on June 27, with over 5,100 graduates receiving bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees. The ceremony was streamed live on multiple social media platforms.

In his speech at the ceremony, Yang Dan, deputy secretary of the CPC BFSU committee and president of the university, extended his congratulations to the graduates on the completion of their academic studies and reviewed their campus life at BFSU.

Yang said that their studies at BFSU had laid a solid foundation for the graduates to become future creators, builders, and leaders in a world full of changes, opportunities, and challenges. 

He called on BFSU graduates to safeguard the diverse coexistence of global civilizations with tolerance, to lead global cultural exchanges and mutual learning with a spirit highlighting equality, and to assist in the inheritance and innovation of global civilizations with an open mind.

Yang said he hopes that the graduates will take into practice the "Chinese solution", which has summed up the rapid development of the country, and make good use of the various languages they have learned at BFSU to tell Chinese stories and promote global development.

Ma Zhengang, a BFSU alumnus of the class of 1965 and former ambassador to the United Kingdom, recalled the scene when he graduated from the university 58 years ago. He called on the graduates to make contributions to national development and strive for new glory for BFSU.

As a teacher representative, Song Yi, vice-dean of the School of International Journalism and Communication at BFSU, said that the university’s rich educational resources, the cultivation of hard-working teachers, and the tireless pursuits of the students have enabled them to thrive and become useful talents.

Cao Han, a representative of undergraduates from the School of German Studies at BFSU, shared his experiences of telling Chinese stories and realizing his childhood dream at the university. He said that he will devote his lifetime to China's diplomatic cause with patriotism, a global mindset and professional skills.

Mao Wei, a representative of master degree graduates from the School of Chinese Language and Literature, said that her time at BFSU has made her ambitious, broad-minded and well-prepared to move forward to embrace the world and shoulder responsibilities.

Bill, a representative of overseas students from the Republic of Uzbekistan, recounted the fresh and first impressions he had upon first landing in China and spoke with feeling about his rich campus life at BFSU.

Jia Wenjian, deputy secretary of the CPC BFSU committee and vice-president of the university, read out the decision to confer diplomas to 4,055 graduates with bachelor's degrees, 1,030 students with master's degrees and 104 PhD holders.
