Yang Dan speaks at 2023 Forum on Development of Xizang, China

The high-quality economic development of the Tibet autonomous region is closely related to the overall national strategy, and the government, as the leading force of Tibet's economic and industrial growth, guarantor of common prosperity and provider of infrastructure and public services, should play an active role in its economic advancement, said Yang Dan, president of Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) and deputy secretary of the CPC BFSU committee.

In his speech at the 2023 Forum on the Development of Xizang, China, held in Beijing on May 23, Yang introduced the achievements made by the autonomous region in higher plateau economic development and put forward suggestions for common prosperity in Tibet.

Yang said that Tibet's economic growth should maintain a people-centered philosophy in development, common prosperity, green development and opening-up to realize comprehensive development.

Themed “New Era, New Xizang, New Journey: New Chapter in Xizang’s High-quality Development and Human Rights Protection”, the forum was hosted by the State Council Information Office and the People's Government of the Tibet Autonomous Region and organized by BFSU, bringing together officials, representatives of media outlets and enterprises, and experts and scholars in multiple fields from both home and abroad.

Five sub-forums discussed whole-process people's democracy, high-quality development and common prosperity, and cultural conservation and inheritance in Tibet, as well as the younger generation’s contribution to the ecological civilization construction on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, and stories of Tibet going global in the digital era.

Foreign teachers at BFSU also shared ideas at the forum, delivering speeches titled "High-quality Development and Cultural Heritage Protection in Tibet", "High-quality Development of Tourism Helps Poverty Reduction and Cultural Protection in Tibet", and "High-quality Development in Tibet to Provide References for Africa".

One week ahead of the forum, foreign experts, scholars and students at BFSU visited villages, schools, enterprises, hospitals and cultural heritage sites in the Tibet autonomous region, and learned about the economic growth, social progress, improvement of people's livelihoods, sound ecological conditions, cultural prosperity and religious harmony in Lhasa and Nyingchi.
