Jia Wenjian visits Czech Republic, Italy

Jia Wenjian, deputy secretary of the CPC committee of Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) and vice-president of the university, led a team to visit the Czech Republic and Italy from April 16 to 23.

During Jia’s tour of the Chinese embassy in the Czech Republic on April 17, he expressed his gratitude to the embassy for supporting BFSU over the years, and briefed embassy staff members on the university's recent achievements and future development in disciplines, talent cultivation and international exchanges.

Feng Biao, China's ambassador to the Czech Republic, met with Jia and said that BFSU graduates working at the embassy have played an important role in China-Czech exchanges, and shared that the embassy will continue to support the university and facilitate BFSUers’ exchange programs and visits to the Czech Republic.

The team paid a visit to Palacký University Olomouc (UP) on April 18 and signed an agreement to establish the Olomouc Confucius Institute, which will replace the Confucius Institute at UP to provide opportunities for Czech people to learn Chinese and understand Chinese culture, as well as promote cooperation between the Faculty of Arts at UP and relevant schools at BFSU.

During his visit to Moravian Business College Olomouc on the same day, Jia thanked the college for its support in building the Confucius Institute and exchanged ideas on inter-school cooperation and the cultivation of business talents with officials of the college.

On April 20, the team went to the Confucius Institute at Sapienza University of Rome and participated in a symposium on the reissue of Italy and China.

Jia congratulated the Confucius Institute on organizing International Chinese Language Day celebrations and affirmed the book’s significance in bolstering cultural exchanges between China and Italy.

While visiting the Confucius Classroom at Rome Convitto Nazionale Vittorio Emanuele II, Jia said that BFSU and the Confucius Institute at Sapienza University of Rome will send top-notch teachers, organize summer camps and assist the Confucius Classroom in improving its teaching and Chinese programs.

On the day, Jia also met with BFSU alumni and students working and studying in Italy and encouraged them to contribute to the friendship between China and Italy.

On April 21, the team visited the University of Naples “L’Orientale”, reached a consensus on deepening cooperation on the joint doctoral training program and in regional research, and exchanged ideas on setting up interdisciplinary joint training programs with the Orientale University.

The team also toured the Chinese embassy in Italy, where Jia and Education Counselor Yu Xingguo talked about strengthening friendly cooperation between Chinese and Italian universities, boosting the development of Confucius Institutes, and promoting Chinese and Italian education.
