Noam Chomsky gives a lecture at 2022 Conference on Biolinguistics & Language Acquisition

Noam Chomsky, a linguistic expert with Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of Arizona, delivered a keynote lecture titled "Language and the Miracle Creed" at the 2022 Conference on Biolinguistics & Language Acquisition at Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) via video link on Oct 29.

Chomsky, also known as "the father of modern linguistics", talked about opportunities and challenges brought by the rapid development of biological neuroscience and brain science to the discipline of biolinguistics and explained core issues as well as the prospect of biolinguistics in the midst of scientific and technological development.

In addition, Chomsky responded to questions from participants.

Teachers and students from the BFSU attended the lecture in person, which was also followed by nearly 40,000 people via live streaming platforms.

The lecture marked the opening of the 2022 Conference on Biolinguistics & Language Acquisition.

In his speech, Yang Dan, deputy Party secretary of the CPC BFSU committee and president of the university, spoke highly of the glorious contributions made by Chomsky to the development of linguistic studies and the exploration of human brain, hailed his academic thought in driving the emergence and development of biolinguistics, psycholinguistics and the linguistic disciplines associated with life science and brain science, and expressed thanks to him and other scholars for their support to the university in talent cultivation.

The 2022 Conference on Biolinguistics & Language Acquisition was jointly held by the BFSU Center for Linguistics and Applied Linguistics and the BFSU National Research Center for Foreign Language Education under the support of the journal Linguistic Sciences.

Other speakers at the 2022 Conference on Biolinguistics & Language Acquisition included Suzanne Flynn, a professor with Massachusetts Institute of Technology; Ning Chunyan, a professor with Tianjin Normal University; and Feng Shengli, a professor with Beijing Language and Culture University.

The 2022 Conference on Biolinguistics & Language Acquisition drew the attendance of experts and scholars from prestigious universities and hospitals at home and from abroad.
