BFSU holds graduation ceremony for 2022 class

Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) held a graduation ceremony for the 2022 class on June 29, with over 3,500 graduates receiving bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees.

Su Dapeng, deputy Party secretary of the CPC BFSU committee, presided over the graduation ceremony, which was also streamed live via multiple social media platforms.

In his speech at the ceremony, Yang Dan, deputy Party secretary of the CPC BFSU committee and president of the university, extended congratulations to graduates on the completion of their academic studies and expressed thanks to faculty members, school leaders, alumni and friends for their support in the students’ growth.

Yang said it is of great importance for college students to incorporate the realization of personal dreams into the promotion of "Chinese solution", which has summed up the rapid development of the country, fueled the spread of Chinese stories and served as a toolbox for the country to respond to global challenges.

He called on BFSU graduates to strengthen their linguistic competence, become all-around talents, bear in mind the fundamental interests of the country, promote BFSU spirit, take "Chinese solution" into practice, deepen global understanding of China, and contribute to the formation of a worldview with Chinese characteristics.

Yang said he hopes graduates will remain true in their later lives to aspirations held during their studies at the university.

Tang Wensheng, a BFSU alumna from the 1965 class and former vice-president of China Soong Ching Ling Foundation (SCLF), reviewed her life journey over the past five decades after graduating from the university. She called on graduates to have a clear understanding of personal mission, adapt to their new life, make relentless efforts in academic studies, and contribute to helping the world and China learn more about each other and promoting the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

As a teacher representative, Zheng Xi, a professor from the Law School at BFSU, urged graduates to learn with an open mind, serve a great cause, cultivate independent thinking, show full respect for different views, hold personal ground while being tolerant, and strive to connect China with the world.

Wang Ruoyan, a graduate representative from the Graduate School of Translation and Interpretation at BFSU, said on behalf of all graduates that she will bear in mind the founding mission of the university, pass on revolutionary traditions, and promote the exchanges and mutual learning among different civilizations.

Lim Ji-min, an overseas student representative from the Republic of Korea (ROK) at the BFSU School of International Relations and Diplomacy, conveyed thanks to teachers and Chinese students for their love and supports. He said on behalf of overseas students that they will make greater contributions to promoting people-to-people communication and cultural exchanges between China and their own countries.

Jia Wenjian, deputy Party secretary of the CPC BFSU committee and vice-president of the university, read the decision to confer diplomas to 2,279 graduates with bachelor's degrees, 1,201 students with master's degrees and 85 PhD holders.

Wang Dinghua, Party secretary of the CPC BFSU committee, gave a congratulatory speech and called on graduates to assume the missions of the times, care about the concerns of the country, have a global mindset, enhance professional competence, maintain physical and mental health, serve national development, promote social progress and create a better life.
