Sun Youzhong elected EVP of TAC council

The eighth general assembly and election of officers of the Translators Association of China (TAC) were held in Beijing on April 1.

The following officials and personalities addressed the opening ceremony: Lyu Yansong, deputy head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee; Du Zhanyuan, president of China International Communications Group; Zhou Mingwei, president of the seventh TAC council; and Kevin Quirk, president of the International Federation of Translators.

A new leadership of the TAC was elected at the meeting: Du Zhanyuan as president; Sun Youzhong, member of the standing committee of the CPC committee of Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) and vice-president of BFSU, as executive vice-president; and Wang Kefei and Ren Wen, professors from the university, as executive council members.

The meeting issued Lifetime Achievement Awards in Translation, and honored senior translators and foreign experts who made contributions to the sector.

Seven professors from BFSU, including Wang Jun, Wang Ruojin, Li Yingnan, Zhang Zailiang, Zhang Fang, Hu Wenzhong and Han Ruixiang won the title of “senior translators”. BFSU was named “excellent TAC member”, and the Graduate School of Translation and Interpretation at the university was honored “advanced community in fighting against the COVID-19 pandemic”.

The meeting also saw the release of 2022 China Translation and Language Service Industry Development Report and 2022 China Translation Talents Development Report.

Founded in 1982, TAC is a nationwide non-profit organization made up of enterprises, institutions, social groups and individuals engaged in translation and interpretation on a voluntary basis. It is China’s sole association in the translation sector, and has group and individual members all over the country.
