Confucius Institute at MSLU holds council meeting

The 2021 Council Meeting of the Confucius Institute at Moscow State Linguistic University (MSLU) was held online on Nov 25.

Representatives from MSLU, Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) and the Confucius Institute attended the virtual meeting.

Irina Kraeva, rector of MSLU, thanked Chinese and Russian staff of the institute for their joint efforts and affirmed the institute’s accomplishments in the past year, especially fruitful results achieved in the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) and Russian-Chinese translation.

She said she hopes the Confucius Institute will play a further role in deepening long-term cooperation between MSLU and BFSU.

Jia Wenjian, deputy secretary of the CPC BFSU committee and vice-president of the university, thanked Kraeva for her congratulatory remarks on BFSU’s 80th anniversary and in turn congratulated Andrei Seleznev, director of the institute, on receiving a medal from the Chinese International Education Foundation for long services as a Confucius Institute director.

Jia affirmed the institute’s achievements in Chinese teaching and cultural exchanges since its establishment ten years ago and praised its success in the HSK.

He said with the joint efforts of the two universities the Confucius Institute will fuel cross-cultural interaction and interdisciplinary cooperation and promote mutual learning between the Chinese and Russian civilizations.

Council members confirmed and signed the 2020 minutes of the Council, reviewed the 2020 work summary, the 2021 work implementation and the 2022 work plan, and deliberated about the 2020 financial statements and the 2021 fiscal budget.

The Confucius Institute hosted by MSLU and BFSU was established in 2011. With efforts of both parties, it has become the largest HSK Center in Europe and has been recognized as an excellent test center four times.
