BFSU IBS celebrates 20th anniversary

The commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the International Business School (IBS) of Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) was held on Sept 25.

Representatives from BFSU and IBS attended the commemoration. 

The ceremony was presided over by Li Chunli, secretary of the CPC branch of the school.

Jia Dezhong, a member of the standing committee of the CPC BFSU committee and vice-president of the university, affirmed IBS’s achievements in discipline construction and faculty building, and extended warm congratulations on its 20th anniversary. 

Jia said as the most diversified college at BFSU, IBS should be committed to promoting global economic development and strive to cultivate international business talents for the Party and the country based on national strategic requirements.

Li pointed out that IBS has always adhered to its original aspirations, fulfilled its mission of educating talents for the Party and the country, strengthened discipline construction, innovated its talent-training mode, improved its talent-training quality, and carried out inter-college cooperation to cultivate inter-disciplinary talents over the past 20 years. 

IBS has employed business executives as mentors, developed in-depth cooperation with enterprises in social practice and industry-university-research integration, and explored new modes of innovative talent cultivation. 

Li suggested that all teachers and students at the school should uphold the university motto of “learn with an open mind and serve a great cause”, seize the opportunities brought by the project of “double first-class” university construction, and strive to make greater contributions in academic innovation and social services.

Niu Huayong, dean of IBS, addresses the commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the school on Sept 25.

Niu Huayong, dean of IBS, reviewed the history of the school and described its plans for further development. He pointed out that IBS has carried forward the traditions of BFSU and created a unique cultural atmosphere with openness, inclusiveness, diversity and innovation. 

Niu called on all teachers and students to continue the glory and achievements of the school, maintain their momentum and shape a brighter future with confidence, enthusiasm and persistence.

Su Yingying, dean of the School of Asian Studies, extended sincere wishes to IBS on its 20th anniversary. Su said the school has trained a large number of international business talents with other foreign language departments at BFSU with an open and cooperative attitude and realized the socialization of business education. She spoke highly of the achievements of IBS and wished the school a better future.

Professor Chen Ruohong from IBS said that the school has seized the opportunities brought by the times and achieved excellent results. She said teachers and students of the school should carry on the IBS spirit and fulfill its mission. 

Hu Xinyong, a member of the BFSU school board and chairman of KIKA Tech, described KIKA’s cooperation with IBS in the field of less commonly taught languages. Hu said that such cooperation has provided guarantees for tech companies to go global. He said he hopes to deepen cooperation with IBS and contribute to the prosperity of world languages.

IBS alumni share their stories at the commemoration of BFSU IBS 20th anniversary on Sept 25.

Chen Gaodi and Sun Zhen, alumni from the 2001 class, Gu Jin, an alumnus from the 2009 class, and Ji Yujia, a graduate representative from the 2021 class, shared their experience at BFUS, thanked IBS teachers for their earnest guidance, and expressed their determination to support the construction and development of BFSU and IBS in the future.
