BFSU holds forum on functional linguistics

The 4th High-end Forum on Integration, Innovation and Development of Functional Linguistics hosted by the National Research Centre for Foreign Language Education, the National Research Center for State Language Capacity and Xu Guozhang Institute for Advanced Studies in Linguistics of Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) was held from Sept 25 to 26.

With the theme of “communication, mutual learning and innovative development”, the online forum attracted more than 140 experts and scholars from 79 universities and scientific research institutions.

Scholars and experts exchange views at the 4th High-end Forum on Integration, Innovation and Development of Functional Linguistics from Sept 25 to 26.

Eighteen professors from renowned universities, including Tsinghua University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Tongji University and BFSU, gave keynote speeches on the integration, innovation and development of functional linguistics. Their speeches reflected the development trends of the discipline and were expected to promote research in these fields.

Following the speeches, 69 scholars exchanged views on such topics as “integration, innovation and development path of linguistic research from the perspective of new liberal arts”, “innovation and developing orientation of functional linguistics”, “mutual learning and integration of theories on functional linguistics and other disciplines” and “the localization research of functional linguistics”. 

The forum showcased academic concerns about the development of foreign language disciplines, especially linguistics. The close interaction between inter-disciplinary, cross-disciplinary and trans-disciplinary development and linguistic innovation will boost further research in this field, said the forum’s organizers.
