Wang Dinghua, secretary of the CPC BFSU committee, delivered a speech. Wang said that BFSU has firmly carried forward the education policies of the CPC, stuck to the requirements of national development and cultivated a large number of talents in the fields of diplomacy, translation, pedagogy, economy and trade, journalism, law, and finance.

During its 80-year development, the university has assembled prestigious masters such as Wang Zuoliang, a celebrated translation theorist and practitioner, Xu Guozhang, a great educator of the English language and an outstanding linguist, and Na Zhong, a distinguished Arab historian and a famous educator of the Arabic language, to lay a firm academic foundation for the university.

Wang pointed out that since entering the new era, BFSU has served the national strategy and strengthened the construction of less commonly taught languages. The university has been approved to run programs for 101 foreign languages and is committed to cultivating inter-disciplinary talents.

“We have optimized our discipline layout, and gradually formed a paradigm of coordinated development of multiple disciplines with foreign languages and literature as the main part. As a perfect tribute to the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC and the 80th anniversary of the establishment of BFSU, the new book series agglomerates the research achievements and wisdom of scholars in various fields, and leads BFSU’s scientific research ahead in the post epidemic era,” Wang said.

In his speech, Wang suggested that discipline leaders and young scholars focus on major projects in national development and play an active role in developing the key fields of the “double first-class” initiative; carry forward inquisitive spirit to promote the discipline integration and produce original academic achievements; and establish academic self-confidence to combine the profession of education with the cause of national rejuvenation.

Wang called on BFSU scholars to devote themselves to scientific research, strive to build a disciplinary system with BFSU characteristics and contribute to speeding up the construction of a modern socialist country and realizing the Chinese dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
