BFSU holds commemorative group wedding for alumni to celebrate founding anniversary

Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) held a commemorative group wedding for 26 couples drawn from its alumni on the morning of September 19 to celebrate the arrival of its 80th founding anniversary.

Those taking part in the special wedding ceremony included three couples of veteran alumni, who were Chen Lin and his spouse Wang Jiaxiang, experts in foreign studies education and former professors from the BFSU School of English and International Studies; Liu Xun and his wife Zhang Yun, graduates from the BFSU School of English and International Studies; Song Mingjiang, a graduate from the BFSU School of English and International Studies and former Chinese ambassador to EU, and his spouse Zhang Youyun, an expert in translation for foreign affairs.

Yang Dan, deputy secretary of the CPC BFSU Committee and president of the university, said in his speech at the ceremony that the university's alumni have spread across the world and fulfilled the dual missions of getting China known by more people and helping the Chinese people learn more about the world over the past several decades, and urged them to contribute more efforts to global development.

Yang expressed deep thanks to all alumni and extended best wishes to attending couples as well.

After the release of a thematic short video, which received great response from the attendees, 26 couples were escorted to the group wedding ceremony.

Yang Xueyi, president of the BFSU General Alumni Association and former Party secretary of the university, wished that they will support their spouses and lead happy lives in the future.

Qian Minru, a teacher from the BFSU School of German Studies, and Liu Xinlu, a teacher from the BFSU School of Arabic Studies, presented their best wishes on behalf of all faculty members to them as well.

Together with Yang, Zhao Gang, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC BFSU Committee and vice president of the university, delivered souvenirs to the couples related to the university's founding anniversary.

Wang Dinghua, secretary of the CPC BFSU Committee, also attended the group wedding ceremony and posed for photos with all participants. He called on them and undergraduates to carry forward fine traditions and contribute more efforts to the development of the country and the university.

A parallel ceremony was held to inaugurate the Sigang Education Development Foundation, which was established with a donation of one million yuan(154,667 dollars) from Qin Sigang and his wife,  alumni of the BFSU. The new foundation is designed to further accelerate the development of the BFSU School of German Studies.

Jia Wenjian, deputy secretary of the CPC BFSU Committee and vice president of the university, presented to Qin and his wife a certificate of financial contribution and old photos of them together.

More than 400 people present at the wedding ceremony included representatives from all schools and functional departments of BFSU, the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press and affiliated middle schools.
