Established in 2014, the School of History (Institute of Global History, BFSU) studies global history from an interactive perspective in order to understand worldwide change and developments.
Beyond national history, it studies the common development and interaction between China and other civilizations in the world.
The School of History, which is also the Institute of Global History was established in 2017. It teaches undergraduates and postgraduates majoring in global history. The Institute conducts global history research building on the foundation of the university’s advantage in foreign languages.
Boasting a renowned advantage in international teaching and research, the School strives to construct an important interactive platform for scholars from around the world to engage in global history research.
The School has three teaching and research sections for world history, Chinese history, and Sino-foreign relations history. It has first-level undergraduate and master’s degree programs in world history, and the master’s degree in world history comprises three research directions: World Regional National History, World General History and Specialized History, and Global History and China.
As of July 2021, the School has 12 faculty members, all of whom have doctoral degrees, including one professor, four associate professors, and seven lecturers. It also has a post-doctoral research station.
Alfons Labisch, former president of the University of Düsseldorf, Germany and distinguished professor of BFSU, and Li Bozhong, Humanities chair professor of Peking University served as academic advisors to the School. James Lee, dean of Faculty of Humanities, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, served as the School’s honorary president.
Professor Li Xuetao, dean of the School, was awarded the title of "New Century Excellent Talents" by China’s Ministry of Education(MOE). He is also chief expert of the "Chinese Culture Overseas Communication Dynamic Database" specially commissioned by the National Social Science Fund of China, general coordinator of the "Extraterritorial Communication and Influence of the Classics of Ancient Chinese Culture in the 20th Century", a major philosophy and social science project of the MOE, and a member of the expert committee of the "Chinese Ideological and Cultural Term Communication Project".
