2021 ICAO Personnel Training Session opens at BFSU

The 2021 International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Personnel Training Session was jointly launched by the International Cooperation and Service Center of the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) and the Competence Development Center for International Organizations at Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU), on July 19.

Meng Qingfen, director of the CAAC International Cooperation and Service Center, presided over the opening ceremony of the week-long training program, which drew the attendance of 60 people from the CAAC and its affiliated departments.

During his speech at the opening ceremony, Jia Wenjian, vice president and deputy secretary of the Party committee of BFSU, talked about the history of the university and its commitment to promoting the development of national and social affairs, and shared with attendees about its experience in personnel training for international organizations over the past decade.

The BFSU Competence Development Center for International Organizations is committed to the research and service of international organizations in the field of competence cultivation. As an extension of BFSU in personnel training, it has worked with the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, the China Association for Science and Technology, and other institutions, to hold multiple rounds of personnel training programs and  has enjoyed a sound reputation among the public over the years.

The latest round of cooperation between BFSU and the CAAC in personnel training for international organizations was held to mark the centenary of the founding of the CPC this year, and Jia urged the two sides to further strengthen their cooperation in relevant training programs.

Liang Nan, head of the Department of International Affairs in the CAAC and an alumna of BFSU, expressed thanks to her alma mater for the organization of the training session, and congratulated it on its 80th founding anniversary in a speech at the ceremony.

Liang said that the ICAO has become a major platform for all attendees at the training session to engage in the reform and building of an international civil aviation governance system, as well as to make the stories of the Chinese civil aviation industry better known, and promote the building of a global community of civil aviation for all.

She called on all trainees to cherish the training opportunity, integrate academic learning with practical work, consolidate their professional knowledge and skills in people-to-people exchanges, and to contribute more efforts towards the building of China as a civil aviation powerhouse.

Organizers drew lessons from previous training programs, further optimizing the composition of faculty staff, the arrangement of curricular activities and the operation of training patterns in accordance with the unique needs of the ICAO. They also invited senior ICAO officials, as well as professionals from China's central authorities and universities, to act as instructors at the training session.

Topics of the training session included a general introduction to the ICAO, cross-culture communications, diplomatic etiquette, and document writing.

Those in attendance of the opening ceremony included Yang Jiru, deputy director-general of the Department of International Affairs at the CAAC, Yang Wei, head of the Foreign Affairs and International Organizations Office under the CAAS Department of International Affairs, Liu Jing, vice-director of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges at the CAAC International Cooperation and Service Center, Li Hui, vice-dean of the BFSU School of International Organizations, Li Aiguo, deputy Party chief of BFSU’s Beiwai College and School of International Organizations, Zhang Siying, deputy editor-in-chief of the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press and general-manager of the press's International Business Center, as well as representatives from the BFSU School of International Organizations.
