Malaysian ambassador to China delivers a lecture on bilateral relations at BFSU

Raja Dato' Nushirwan Zainal Abidin, Malaysia's ambassador to China, gave a themed lecture on China-Malaysia relations at Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU), on May 27.

It was the second session of a lecture series titled "Celebrating the 80th Anniversary of BFSU and Inviting Foreign Ambassadors to Visit the University."

Su Yingying, dean of the BFSU School of Asian Studies, presided over the lecture.

During a meeting with Nushirwan, Yang Dan, deputy secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) BFSU committee and president of the university, talked about the history and development of BFSU, the major in the Malaysian language and the China-Malaysia Research Center.

Yang expressed thanks to the Malaysian government, Malaysia's embassy in China, as well as other various parties, for their long-term support in the development of the major of the Malaysian language at BFSU. He also called for further efforts to promote China-Malaysia relations through closer cooperation on education and culture, and expressed his hope that the embassy could provide BFSU with the necessary assistance to conduct academic and cultural exchanges with top Malaysian universities and research institutes.

Nushirwan thanked BFSU for the invitation to give a lecture and congratulated the university on its upcoming 80th anniversary. He spoke highly of the positive role played by the university in talent cultivation in relation to foreign affairs, diplomacy and in foreign exchanges. He also fully affirmed the achievements made by its major in the Malaysian language and the positive developments of the China-Malaysia partnership, as well as stressing the importance of education and culture in further enhancing bilateral relations.

Speaking in his lecture, Nushirwan reviewed the development of China-Malaysia and China-ASEAN relations over the past few decades, and explained the importance of China to the development of the ASEAN region. He also urged for more efforts to be made to promote the growth of trade in a bid to ensure the long-term economic growth and prosperity of China, Malaysia and the ASEAN bloc.

Nushirwan called for the establishment of new healthy dialogues between the two countries and hoped for the two sides to engage in more friendly and open dialogue and cooperation in the future.

In addition, Nushirwan responded to questions from attending teachers and students on China-Malaysia relations and bilateral cooperation in the post-pandemic world.
